Dublin Employment Pact’s collaboration with Dublin Regional Authority on behalf of the four Dublin local authorities has developed strongly since the launch of the joint DEP-DRA Agenda in 2005, and the international seminar in October 2007, “Dublin – The Creative City Region”, which was addressed by leading policy makers and planners, as well as by globalisation expert Prof. Richard Florida.
A follow-up Round Table was held on the issues, chaired by Greg Swift, DCEB, and a Framework terms of reference for a study and policy initiative were developed at further meetings in early 2008, with Dublin Employment Pact’s input focused on the employment base and social inclusion.
DRA and Dublin city/county managers took up the initiative and developed a framework Economic Development Strategy for Dublin. Dublin Employment Pact was commissioned to lead the Employment & Skills Strand of this Dublin strategy, which was finalised in November 2009 and launched at the seminar Employment and Unemployment: The Future of Work in Dublin, addressed by Minister Séan Haughey T.D., Mr. Danny McCoy (President, IBEC), Dr John Sweeney (economist, NESC), Jim O’Leary (NUI Maynooth), Tony Tyrrell (WRC social and economic consultants) and Philip O’Connor (DEP).
